The powerful M-version of BMW’s 3-Series is scheduled for launch next year only. The 3-Series M will be available as coupe, convertible and four door.
For the first time power will come from a V8 powerplant, deriving from the M5 and M6.It is a 4.0 litre engine delivering 415 HP, transmission is a seven speed SMG gearbox. A traditional six speed manual transmission will be offered as an option.
The photos are showing an almost undisguised M3 coupe prototype from all angles on yesterday’s test drive in Munich featuring the large air intakes at the front end, wider fenders and four exhaust pipes. Another year later BMW will launch an M3 convertible and a four door version.

A new version of one of the world's best-selling high-performance car is preparing for action - and we have the pictures that prove it. Only one week ago, we revealed for the very first time spy photos of the all-new BMW M3 Coupe. And now our spies have caught the car testing at the German Nurburgring and the saloon in northern Sweden. The next-generation M3 is the first V8-engined 3-Series, and offers 400 bhp - so expect it to race from 0-100 km/h in a fraction over five seconds, and go on to a limited top speed of 250 km/h. Power will be fed to the rear wheels via a six speed manual gearbox or the latest SMG sequential manual, possibly with seven ratios. The new car should maintain the M3's reputation for outstanding handling. The V8 will be more compact than the current in-line six cylinder model, while a longer wheelbase will help with weight distribution. Externally, the car takes many cues from the M5, with twin-exit exhausts, front wing vents and discreet 'M' badges, while the look of the all-new 3-Series means an aggressive nose and deeply sculpted flanks. Expect to see the M3 in showrooms at the end of 2006. It will come in saloon, coupe, cabrio and estate guise.

Od siebie mogę dodać tyle, że na zdjęciach prezentuje się wyśmienicie. A 4-ro litrowe V8 daje świetne osiągi. Cóż więcej chcież od sportowego samochodu klasy kompakt premium ?

V-ósemka w nowej M3 ma bazować na V10 z M5 / M6 - przynajmniej taki plotki na razie krążą...

moze im chodzi o stary silnik ze starej M5 ? ale M6 ma juz V10 fakt
ale to jeszcze prototyp wiec wiele moze sie zmienic...szkoda tylko ze RS6 bedzie mocniejsze ??:

a co do bazowania to moga byc tylko plotki zeby reklamowac ten silnik jako nastepce silnika roku ...bo V10 na szczescie taki tytul zdobyla...ale jak bedzie z V8 w M3 to wyjdzie w praniu...i jak zrobia wersje 4x4 nawet w opcji to sie poirytuje

za duzo wrazen wzrokowych i pomylily mi ise klawisze
oczywiscie chcialem napisac RS4

Narazie zapowiada się nieźle, szczególnie że będzie wersja sedan Silnik na pewno będzie jednym z lepszych jeśli nie najlepszym w swojej klasie, pomimo że wspomniane RS4 ma więcej koni. Dobrze również że będzie opcjonalna skrzynia manualna a nie SMG, nie wszyscy są zachwyceni tym wynalazkiem, choć ja się nie przekonam dopóty, dopóki nie przetestuję
